New Digs

Well, I have redesigned my site…..again. Why did I do this? A few reasons, I have wanted something different for a while now, but every theme I looked at, it did seem like “me”. Which is part of the problem, half the time I don’t even know who I am or what I want to do. I kept looking at what other vloggers and people who were doing video on the web were doing and while I liked a lot of the other sites looks, it didn’t feel like me. Or there would be parts I liked and parts I didn’t like. And not knowing a whole lot about coding and such it was frustrating. (I have learned a bit but not enough to make wholesale changes) And I no longer wanted my site to just be about “vlogging”. I do a lot more than just make video’s, I write, I take photo’s etc. Vlogging is just a part of my life, it’s been a big part the last 3 1/2 years but I have felt those other parts of me life tugging at me. So trying to find a site that showed all that, video, pictures, blogging, writing, etc…well they are out there but again, some I liked, some I didn’t and some, well cost money and since I am making nothing from all this, I had to make some decisions.

Then one day not to long ago, I had an epiphany. I had been so focused on the “look” of my site, I was overlooking the most obvious thing about my site, the content. When Glenna and I were building our house, we had decided for the living room we were not going to go a traditional route with a couch, love seat ,etc. Instead we wanted to go with a couple of easy chairs and a couple of sitting chairs. Well our kids were like “where are people going to sit? It feels cold and impersonal”. So I did start wondering if we should scrap our idea and go with the couch and stuff and then Glenna said to me, “it’s not a couch or a love seat that will make our house feel warm and open, it’s us” People don’t come to my site again and again because of how it looks, they come because they have taken the time to get to know me. Well that and I am think most of you just view my posts in a reader and really only come here to post a comment

So once I got over how my site should look, I started asking myself what I wanted my site to be. And I want the site to be a reflection of me and I think this is. I also wanted to be able to highlight random and popular posts and a way to show related posts, which I can with some pretty nice plugins. I also was looking at doing away with the vpip player. I really like the vpip player and now that Eric is taking ownership of them, I know they will be awesome. But when you have a wordpress site, you have to keep up with the changes and the vpip plugin had not been updated in a while and well like Verdi said, I just want to focus on creating content.

That was part of the reason I am now using the Blip player, beside blip hosting my video’s, they are really cool people. So why not support them by using the tools they have created to help content creators? That and I can just lay in the embed code and I am done. I still have a lot of video’s do get over to the new blip player, that should take a couple of weeks to finish, but for the most part I think I am done with the site. There still may be a few changes here and there but I am liking it.

So here is the new site, where I will post video’s, blog, pictures and anything else I feel like doing. Why? Because I can….hence the picture that really has nothing to do with this post….

Oh, does anyone know of a good WP/twitter plugin? Not sure I like the one twitter uses by default.
