Save the internet

Ok, let me tell you this is one “sexy” post…….Net neutrality…….Ok, it’s not sexy but it is important to all of us. In my video I tried to use an analogy that everyone could relate to. Because it is not just about video, it is about how the internet works and how it could be used unfairly and that is what is important. The bells and the cable companies would have you believe that the “story” I tell in my vlog would never happen that they would never do this……but they have and unless the FCC stepped in (in a rare act of sanity) and stopped it. Voice over IP would only be offered by the bells if offered at all.

We can not trust that they will do the “right” thing. Because to them the “right” thing is to make as much money as possible. Which is not a bad thing but it should not come at the cost of inovation or impare the ability for all of us to use the internet on eqaul footing. And Congress is just as bad in some ways in this case because they are bowing to money, yet again.

How big a deal is this? Microsoft and Google agree that we should have net neutrality………..that is like God and Satan agreeing on something……(not calling one of these God and the other Satan just illistrating how big a deal for them to agree on anything is)

So let’s save the internet for all of us

Way to go, Heath. This issue is huge, and most people dont even know about it … or understand it.

The Dell example was great. If the Bells are allowed to tier the internet, any new product or service would never be able to have a comparable site/service as the giants who are already in the space.

Would FireFox ever had been heard of if Microsoft could have paid to ensure its downloads had better placement / bandwidth?

If allowed to … why wouldn’t the TimeWarner network charge a ‘toll’ for network traffic to iTunes (ensuring their media store is more attractive to the end user)?

Would grass roots activists ever have their voice heard if the deep pockets of lobbyists could ink deals to block the site entirly?

Freedom of speech isn’t free if it’s given only to the highest bidder.

These are all sort of nightmare scenerios … but it could happen if this goes unchecked. We need net neutrality on the books.

This goes before The House next week – now is the time for action.

I know, it is so big on so many levels, it’s hard to completly wrap your head around it, but as I was thinking about my post the Dell thing just hit me and I felt it was something people could understand quickly….you had a great post on it as well….
